South west Wales, St. Davids and the Bishop’s Palaces, the Gower peninsula and its association with Dylan Thomas and the romance of the welsh culture both poetic and historical resulted in many visits.
Offa’s Dyke and the Welsh Marcher barons are a fundamental part of British history. Ludlow, the great marcher stronghold is central to the area, but the river Wye, the Severn, the great mound of Long Mynd, Wenlock Edge and the ancient town of Shrewsbury and even more ancient Oswestry Fort all contribute to the feeling of frontier. Anglesey (Ynis Mon) is a place apart with many indications of ancient culture and an 18th Century industrial heritage as the largest producer of copper in the world at Parys Mountain.
