Galway Bay to Cork City
Over the past three decades I have made regular trips to the western shore of Ireland, visiting most of the islands, often more than once.
Many of the Islands once supported self contained communities most of which are now abandoned. They have left moving reminders in the ruins of their villages and field systems. Nearly every island of any size has association with the early Christian saints and their churches and oratories. Early stone crosses and slabs proliferate.
5 Miles north of Malin Head lies the once inhabited Island of Inishtrahull, the most northerly point of Ireland. West is Tory Island (still with population) and the Bloody Foreland. Although there are still areas to explore as one moves south through Glencolum Kille Donegal Bay, West Mayo, Slyne Head, Connemara and the Aran Islands there are far too many places to list here.
